221108 AVP Candidate Recruiting Letter

esp. Statewide offices

DRAFT

Friend,

The purpose of this letter is to recruit you as a candidate for the Approval Voting Party in November 2022.

The Approval Voting Party was formed as a single-issue political party to advance Approval Voting.

Briefly, Approval Voting is like voting with a show of hands.

When friends want to stay friends and are voting on a movie or restaurant, they sometimes use a show of hands.  The movie or restaurant with the most votes wins.

Currently, the tag line is:

Approval Voting moves us beyond two-party thinking!

Vote for everyone you approve of…

The candidate with the most votes wins

RESOURCES

The most effective method to advance Approval Voting is to advocate for a Home Rule municipality to pass an Approval Voting measure.  We hope to be doing that in City of Commerce City and City of Littleton.

However, the most effective (cost per eyeballs) public relations effort is to get candidates on the ballot for state wide elections.  We do not intend to win; we intend to publicize Approval Voting.

Proposed agreement:

When stating your opinions, the candidate must clearly begin and end with the tag line bold faced above.

Between those two statements the candidate may with a disclaimer state his personal opinions as long as it is reasonable and does not embarrass the Approval Voting Party.

All media candidate inquires must be promptly responded to or forwarded to Party Headquarters.  It is hoped that for media inquires the following statement will be provide to the outlet.

AN EXAMPLE

My portion of the Approval Voting Party web site might read:

I am running for office to introduce you, the voter, to the Approval Voting method of voting.  I have no intentions or delusions of winning; however, I do want you to understand Approval Voting better.  Our party tag line is:

Approval Voting moves us beyond two-party thinking!

Vote for everyone you approve of…

The candidate with the most votes wins

I look forward to hearing from you,

Frank Atwood, Chair of the Approval Voting Party
